reckoning
Lately, it feels like many of us are facing more than just the usual ups and downs. We’re dealing with those big, life-altering moments that shake us to our core and demand that we shed our old selves to find a new way forward. These are the moments when we’re exposed, raw, and disoriented, and we don’t yet know how to put the pieces back together.
Even if your personal life seems relatively stable, a simple glance at the world around us can spark a wave of anxiety or a flare of anger. We seem to be in a season of reckoning, asking ourselves hard questions about the life and world we are creating.
With every transition and change comes a flood of emotions—grief, anxiety, fear, and even anger. It’s easy to feel like you’re drowning in the tide of these feelings. Our instinct is often to suppress them, to distract ourselves, and to hold it all together for just a little longer. But over time, ignoring these emotions can lead to discomfort and dis-ease, settling deep within our bodies.
So where do we begin when the storm is at its strongest? With just one breath. One moment to anchor ourselves back to the present, to reconnect with our body, and to find that steady part of ourselves that can witness the chaos without being consumed by it.
Yoga invites us into that space of stillness. It’s a practice that asks us to return to the present, no matter how overwhelming our thoughts and feelings may be. Through breath, movement, and mindful awareness, we can find the calm within the storm. We can allow ourselves to be exactly where we are, without the need to fix or change anything.
As you step onto your mat, remember this: it’s okay to feel everything. It’s okay to be in the midst of transformation. And it’s okay to start with just one breath—one small step toward finding stillness in the chaos.
