take a step back

Whenever we take a step back and eventually recommit myself to the things we know will work, (which I have done many times though the years, because we all fall out of routine) we get another opportunity to unravel the layers of distraction and noise.

Once we understand "not doing," we see that the real struggle is to relax into greater awareness so that we can see the manifestations of our resistance for what they are. By neither acting on our automatic impulses nor suppressing them, we begin to understand what is causing them to arise in the first place.

For me, I gain access to a deeper understanding of my values, desires, and purpose. I get to tap back into this inner wisdom which empowers my decision-making, sense of confidence and peace in navigating life’s challenges. Tap back in to, because it never left. Each moving meditation of vinyasa is a dance of remembrance that addresses my physical and emotional needs — breath practices reduce stress and improve focus, directing attention inward and revealing inner wisdom. Meditation fosters peace, allowing observation of thoughts without attachment, leading to clearer insights. And the joy of movement, well it’s the gravy on top.

So if you find yourself needing a bit of a reset, take a step back and when you’re ready to step back in… here are a few of my non-negotiables.

Regular Yoga Practice
Set aside time on your mat (any amount of time IS enough time) for regular yoga that includes movement, breathwork, and stillness. It’s simple… DO YOUR PRACTICE

Mindful Meditation
Take time each day to meditate. Focus on your breath, thoughts, and feelings without judgment. Sit quietly and listen to your inner self.

Journaling
Use journaling for self-reflection. Write about your experiences and feelings, and explore your thoughts through questions.

Nature Connection
Spend time outdoors to reconnect with nature. It calms the mind and helps you access your inner wisdom.

Listen to Your Body
Pay attention to your body’s signals. Notice what it needs—rest, movement, food, or healing.

When you create a space for stillness and reflection, you open the door to self-discovery. Through meditation, you cultivate awareness, enabling you to listen to your thoughts and emotions without judgment, and this practice not only awakens clarity but also illuminates the underlying wisdom that resides within us all. This inner knowing acts as a subtle yet guiding force beyond the myriad of external influences that can cloud our judgment and it is deeply linked to our higher self and the broader universal consciousness, offering us insights that guide us toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Try it out for yourself — integrate one or all of these in your routine and notice what you notice. Most importantly… remember to trust, you already know.
